SCHOLARSHIP

Each year, the Alabama Hunter Jumper Association awards two educational grants to graduating members of the AHJA. These scholarships are granted on the basis of academic achievement, service to the community, and an active involvement with horses. Emphasis will be placed upon financial need, and active participation in the AHJA is a must.

1) Scholastic Scholarship - $1,500.00
Available to all graduating high school seniors with a G.P.A. of 3.0 or higher, and who plan on attending college or a higher learning institution and/or program. The applicant must complete no less than 3 hours of volunteer service to either an AHJA sanctioned horseshow, or to a non-profit charitable program. They must also complete the application form, submit three referral letters and complete two essay questions. Once the applicant has turned in their scholarship application, proof of volunteer hours, referral letters and their two essay questions, interviews will be conducted with selected applicants. This scholarship will be awarded based upon the above criteria and the interview. The selected member will be announced in August of 2008.

2) AHJA Service Award - $1,500.00
Available to graduating high school seniors with a G.P.A. of 3.0 or higher, who plan on working in the horse industry in some capacity rather than attending college or a higher learning institution and/or program.The applicant must complete no less than 3 hours of volunteer service to either an AHJA sanctioned horseshow, or to a non-profit charitable program. They must also complete the application form, submit three referral letters and complete two essay questions. Once the applicant has turned in their scholarship application, proof of volunteer hours, referral letters and their two essay questions, interviews will be conducted with selected applicants. This scholarship will be awarded based upon the above criteria and the interview. The selected member will be announced in August of 2008.

All applications must be completed and returned to Marti Teasley (5597 Park Side Circle, Hoover , AL 35244 ) . Applications must be received absolutely no later than Friday, June 13, 2008. Those selected for interviews will be contacted by Wednesday, June 18, 2008. Interviews will be conducted on Sunday, June 22, 2008.
