Five Questions with USET chef d’equipe George H Morris:

JMH:  You’ve been teaching riding and jumping clinics at Blackjack Farms in Birmingham, Alabama since 2003.  Do you feel there has been marked improvement in the overall clinic attendance and rider talent?

GHM:  “There is no question as to the improvement here over the years!  This was our best year yet“.

JMH:  Why is it important for the teachers and trainers in Alabama (Zone 4) to support the USHJA sponsored Trainer’s Certification Program?

GHM:  “It is only logical that we certify trainers.  They must be recognized like in most other countries and in most other sports”.

JMH:  What can members of the Alabama Hunter Jumper Association do to upgrade their capabilities and standards within the Hunter / Jumper industry?

GHM:  “Read.  Watch DVD’s.  Watch better riders, teachers and trainers. Learn how to learn.  Go out of Alabama from time to time in order to improve”.

JMH:  Currently there are only 2 USEF rated “A” shows in Alabama – is that because of location, interest or tradition?

GHM:  “All of the above.  Alabama is not in the “main stream” like New York, Virginia, Florida, and California”.

JMH:  If we build it will they come? In other words, if Alabama had a - state of the art - Horse Park – where would you put it, how big would it be and do you think it would help the horse industry in this state?

GHM:  “Of course they would come just like they go to Kentucky (Horse Park).  As long as it is quality and First Class. And, put up some prize money”.
